Lenin Lal, a Left-aligned Syndicate member of Kerala University, lodged a formal complaint with the Cantonment police against Vice-Chancellor in-charge Mohanan Kunnummal, accusing him of tampering with the official minutes of a recent Syndicate meeting.
The complaint holds both Dr. Kunnummal and Director (Planning and Development) Mini Dejo Kappen responsible for altering the minutes of the meeting held on September 2. The Vice-Chancellor has been accused of rewriting the minutes to “suit his personal agenda”, a move that is being described as a serious criminal offence involving forgery of an official document, cheating and criminal conspiracy.
The controversy revolves around the appointment of Dr. Kappen as Registrar in-charge by the Vice-Chancellor. While this appointment was reported at the meeting, the Syndicate refused to ratify the decision, citing that issue of Registrar K.S. Anil Kumar’s suspension is still under consideration by the Kerala High Court.
However, the “modified” minutes allegedly prepared by the Vice-Chancellor omitted the decision in a manner that validated Dr. Kappen’s appointment. The police have commenced a preliminary investigation in the issue.
