The Kalyana Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCI) has urged the government to expedite works on the PM MITRA mega textile park, stressing the need for time-bound execution of the project.
A KKCCI team, led by president Sharanabasappa M. Pappa and honorary secretary Shivraj V. Inginshetty, visited the project site on Saturday to review the progress of ongoing development works.
Members of the Textile Park Horata Samiti were also part of the visit.
During the inspection, the team noted that works worth around ₹100 crore have been initiated by the State government across various departments.
“The 1.5-km entrance road construction has commenced, while a barrage across the Bhima, planned for 280 metres, has seen 110 metres completed so far. The remaining work is expected to be finished by May or June this year,” Mr. Pappa told media after the inspection.
However, KKCCI office-bearers expressed concern over delays in the execution of the project. They pointed out that although the PM MITRA Park was inaugurated on March 28, 2023, actual work on the ground began only recently, nearly three years later.
While welcoming the commencement of works, the chamber termed the delay “unacceptable” and called upon the government to ensure that the project is now implemented on a fast-track basis without further setbacks.
“We have been consistently pursuing the project with both the Central and the State governments, including the Union Textiles Ministry, highlighting its importance for regional development. The textile park has the potential to transform the industrial landscape of Kalyana Karnataka by generating employment and boosting economic activity. We want it to be implemented as early as possible,” Mr. Pappa said.
He urged the authorities to speed up all ongoing works, ensure simultaneous execution across departments, and take necessary steps to operationalise the park at the earliest.
