The Kalaburagi-headquartered Kalyana Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KKRTC) on Thursday disbursed compensation cheques of ₹10 lakh each to the families of 22 employees who died in service under the corporation’s Internal Group Insurance Scheme.
Appointment orders were handed over to 18 dependants who had been selected for jobs under compassionate grounds.
KKRTC chairman Arun Kumar Patil distributed the cheques and appointment orders at a programme held at the corporation’s headquarters.
Speaking on the occasion, Managing Director B. Susheela explained that the Internal Group Insurance Scheme was operated from September 1, 2011 to December 31, 2021 under a contributory model.
“Under this scheme, ₹100 was deducted every month from each employee’s salary, with an additional ₹50 contributed by the administration. In case of an employee’s death, the nominee was provided a compensation of ₹3 lakh . From January 1, 2022, the contribution has been revised to ₹200 from employees and ₹210 from the corporation, significantly enhancing financial security for families. The compensation has been increased from ₹3 lakh to ₹10 lakh for dependants of deceased employees,” she said.
He said KKRTC follows the 2018 Compassionate Appointment Policy on compassionate appointments. Applications are processed strictly based on seniority and availability of vacancies in the cadres sought by the dependants, with appointments made at the divisional level.
Families of employees from various divisions – Kalaburagi (Division 1 and 2), Raichur, Koppal, Ballari, Vijayapura, Bidar and Hosapete – received compensation cheques on Thursday. Dependants from the same divisions, including spouses, sons and daughters of deceased employees, were issued appointment orders.
Chief Traffic Manager Santosh Kumar and several senior officials of KKRTC, including Basavaraj, Basappa, Mahipal S. and Begar, were present on the occasion. (eom)
