A statutory council meeting of the Kochi Corporation convened on Friday was wound up within minutes amid slogan shouting by the Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF), which demanded the resignation of Mayor V.K. Minimol following a Vigilance inquiry ordered against her on a corruption complaint.

Opposition councillors, who entered the hall carrying placards shortly before the meeting began at 3 p.m., stormed the dais and unfurled a banner reading “corrupt Mayor resign” as soon as the Mayor assumed the chair. Through the din, Ms. Minimol read out resolutions condoling deaths and commending Corporation officials, including the secretary, for their efficiency that helped Kochi top the State in Plan fund utilisation.
