Kolkata gears up for Comic Con with Cosplay 101 workshop

As anticipation builds for the upcoming Kolkata Comic Con 2026, Comic Con India has begun warming up the city’s fandom with a special Cosplay 101 Workshop, designed to introduce enthusiasts to the craft of transforming into their favourite pop-culture characters.

The interactive session will take place at TopCat CCU and is expected to bring together fans from across the city for a hands-on introduction to the art of cosplay. The workshop will be led by well-known names from the cosplay community, including Akshay Churi, a two-time winner of the Indian Championship of Cosplay, along with cosplayers Souvik and Asmita, former ICC’25 Kolkata qualifiers, and popular cosplayer Pracheta.

Through demonstrations and guided sessions, they will walk participants through the fundamentals of cosplay, from foam prop crafting and VFX makeup to wig styling, costume finishing and character performance. The session will also showcase professional techniques such as creating metallic textures, weathering props for a battle-worn effect, and layering highlights and shadows to achieve realistic character looks. Beyond costume building, the workshop aims to highlight the performance aspect of cosplay, encouraging participants to embody their characters with confidence and creativity. The initiative is part of Comic Con India’s effort to nurture Kolkata’s growing fandom culture ahead of the city’s edition of the festival, which will be held on April 11–12, 2026 at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre.
