Kompally drug bust: Court rejects bail pleas of intel officer’s son, key accused

Hyderabad: A Ranga Reddy district court has rejected the bail petitions of senior intelligence officer’s son, Rahul Teja, and the prime accused, Annamaneni Surya, in the Kompally drug bust case.

Teja, while seeking bail, claimed innocence and argued that he was falsely implicated in the case solely because of his familial relation to Surya.According to the court order in Surya’s bail plea, authorities from the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) alleged that Surya, along with other accused, pooled money to purchase narcotic substances such as cocaine, LSD, and ecstasy, with the intent to distribute them to consumers.Surya’s arrest led to the seizure of 10 grams of cocaine, OG ganja, and ecstasy pills. Notably, the drugs were found hidden inside packaged women’s footwear.

The court noted that the quantity of drugs seized exceeded the prescribed ‘small quantity’ threshold under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and cited the ongoing investigation as grounds to deny bail.Teja’s bail was also rejected, with the court observing that he is a repeat offender.

EAGLE sleuths informed the court that Teja was previously booked under the NDPS Act by the Dichpally police in Nizamabad district in 2024.D

uring the hearing, Teja’s counsel argued that no contraband was recovered from his possession and that his implication was based solely on Surya’s confession, allegedly due to their familial relationship. However, the court, after hearing both sides, refused to grant bail.In contrast, the court granted conditional bail to two other accused—Surabhi Jaswanth and D Pavan Kumar—citing a previous high court order under which co-accused Yashwanth Ramana and Navadeep Reddy were released on bail.Meanwhile, the bail applications of two other accused, including P Mohan, son of a DCP-rank officer, and C Harsha, are still under consideration by the Rangareddy district court.
