The district administration has made all necessary preparations for the smooth conduct of Census 2027 in Koppal, Deputy Commissioner and Principal Census Officer Suresh B. Itnal said on Friday.

Addressing a press conference at his office in Koppal, he said that Census will be carried out in two phases as per a notification issued by the Central government. The first phase, comprising self-enumeration and listing of houses, will be gone through between April 1 and May 15, 2026, he added.

“Self-enumeration will be open from April 1 to 15 through an online portal, allowing households to submit details digitally within 15-20 minutes and obtain a unique Self-Enumeration identity number. This identity number must be shared with enumerators during field visits for verification and final submission. The second component of the first phase, listing of houses and Census, will be comprise door-to-door visits by enumerators from April 16 to May 15,” Mr. Itnal said.

Mr. Itnal said that Census 2027 will be a fully digital exercise, carried out through a mobile application and web portal.

“In Koppal district, 2,783 enumerators and 470 supervisors will be deployed across 2,523 enumeration blocks,” he said.

Sharing details on the deputation of various officials for the purpose, the Deputy Commissioner said that the Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat will serve as Additional Principal Census Officer, the Additional Deputy Commissioner as District Census Officer, while Sub-Divisional Officers and Tahsildars will be assigned key roles at sub-divisional and taluk levels.

In an appeal, he urged residents to actively participate in the self-enumeration and cooperate with officials during their field visits to ensure accurate data collection.

No LPG shortage

Responding to media queries on the status of fuel stock in the district, Mr. Itnal clarified that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel or LPG in the district. He urged citizens not to panic or resort to hoarding.

He said that the district has 167 fuel outlets. Adequate stocks are available to meet daily and monthly demand.

“There is no need for panic buying. Such actions may disrupt normal supply systems,” he said and cited assurances from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas that sufficient fuel stocks are available nationwide.

Regarding LPG supply, he said that there are 24 gas agencies in the district catering to 3.79 lakh domestic connections and 4,229 commercial connections.

“Priority is being given to essential services such as hostels, hospitals, schools under the Akshara Dasoha scheme and Indira canteens. Officials have also taken action against the misuse of domestic cylinders for commercial purposes, seizing 45 such cylinders during inspections,” he said.

He said that a helpline has been set up at the Deputy Commissioner’s office for public assistance and citizens can contact Ph: 08539-221515 in case of inconvenience.

Officials from the Food and Civil Supplies Department, oil companies and district administration were present at the press conference.
