Kottayam MCH gets new facilities worth ₹283 crore

Development projects worth ₹283 crore, including a new surgical block, will be opened at Government Medical College Hospital (MCH) in Kottayam on Monday.

According to Minister for Cooperatives and Devaswom V.N. Vasavan, the new facilities will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at 3 p.m. The function, to be held on the medical college premises, will be presided over by Health Minister Veena George.

The new ₹257-crore surgical block, with a built-up area of over 33,642 sq m and funded by the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), has 526 beds, 44 ICU beds and 14 operation theatres. It is equipped with advanced medical technology, including a 256-slice CT scan, a 3 Tesla MRI, a modern digital radiography machine, and fluoroscopy equipment.

Other major projects include the cath lab set up at ₹7.88 crore, the first phase of the paramedical hostel completed at a cost of ₹6 crore, the 32-slice CT scanning system set up in the cancer block at a cost of ₹4.28 crore, the main entrance renovated at a cost of ₹1.25 crore, and the maternal and newborn care unit set up in the gynaecology department at a cost of ₹1.2 crore.

The foundation stone for a new toilet block, to be constructed at a cost of ₹74 lakh in the ABC block, will also be laid during the function. Skin bank (₹64.57 lakh), creche (₹60 lakh), lactation management centre (₹64.2 lakh), equipment at the cardiac rehabilitation unit, Echo machine, CAM machine and ventilators, set up using CSR funds, will also be inaugurated on Monday.
