The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) will collect 8 paise per unit from consumers under bi-monthly billing and 9 paise per unit from consumers under monthly billing as fuel surcharge on electricity in August.

The surcharge is meant to recover ₹20.63 crore, the additional cost incurred by the KSEB on power purchases in June 2025.

In July, the KSEB had collected 6 paise per unit as fuel surcharge from consumers under monthly and bi-monthly billing systems.

From June 2023, the KSEB has been collecting the surcharge through an automatic recovery mechanism under the Terms and Conditions for Determination of Tariff (First Amendment) Regulations notified by the State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

To avoid tariff shock, the Commission has set 10 paise per unit as the maximum monthly surcharge amount that power distribution companies can collect under the regulations.
