Around 12 passengers, including students, were injured after a KSRTC bus lost control and crashed into a concrete retaining wall near the underpass on the Chala bypass on Friday morning. The bus, which was travelling from Kozhikode to Kannur, met with the accident at around 9.30 a.m. Preliminary information suggests that the driver lost control of the vehicle on the rain-soaked road, causing it to veer off and hit the roadside concrete wall.
The injured were shifted to a private hospital in Chala for treatment. The bus was carrying a large number of passengers, including women and children travelling to the Parassinikadavu temple, as the State-wide free travel scheme for women on KSRTC buses was in force due to the holiday. Police have begun an inquiry into the accident. Initial findings indicate that the wet road conditions may have contributed to the crash.
