The 27-year-old footballer, who is now the joint-most capped player for Les Bleus in FIFA World Cup history, became only the second player in the world after Lionel Messi to score 20 or more goals in the FIFA World Cup.

Messi has played 31 FIFA World Cup matches for Argentina across six editions and scored 21 goals. On the other hand, Mbappe, who made his FIFA World Cup debut in 2018, has 20 goals to his credit in 20 matches played so far across three editions.

In the list of players with the most goals in the FIFA World Cup, Messi and Mbappe are followed by Germany’s Miroslav Klose and Brazil’s Ronaldo.
