Calangute: The members of Congress party in Calangute have urged the authorities to replace the non-functional CCTV cameras and to install CCTV cameras in all areas in Calangute following the brutal assault of a local taxi driver, in Pernem on Wednesday night.“The 65-year-old taxi driver from Calangute was seriously injured. During investigations, there was no CCTV footage available from the taxi stand at Calangute beach where the taxi was hired because of which the attackers could not be identified,” said Lourenco Silveira, Calangute block Congress president. “The taxi driver could have been killed. This was a pre-planned dacoity. They had come to rob the car.”Govt claims to have installed CCTV cameras at all major spots, Congress said. “Calangute is a major tourist destination with people from all over the country and world coming,” a Congress worker said. “CCTV cameras are a must at all places for the safety of locals and tourists when the new tourist season starts in Oct.”
