Lack of school facility for tribal children: SHRC registers case

The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has registered a suo motu case over the lack of school facility for six children, aged between five and six, in the tribal settlement of Mangapparakudi under the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary in Idukki.

The commission took the case based on news reports about the absence of school facilities.

SHRC Chairperson Alexander Thomas issued a directive to the Idukki Collector to convene an emergency meeting of the District Education Officer and the officers concerned and submit a report within four weeks.

The commission also ordered that the officials concerned must be personally present to explain details before the commission at a sitting scheduled for September 2 at the Thodupuzha PWD Rest House.
