Barcelona confirmed Lamine Yamal as the new No. 10 and also officially signed until 2031 with a €1 billion release clause and has a hometown mural.

Barcelona have officially confirmed that Lamine Yamal will wear the club’s legendary No. 10 jersey starting from the 2025-26 season.

The move, long anticipated by fans and insiders alike, was finalized following Ansu Fati’s loan move to Monaco, which includes an option to buy.

Yamal now steps into the shirt previously worn by club legends including Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, and Diego Maradona, marking a major milestone in his meteoric rise at the club.

Yamal Signs New Long-Term Deal

Alongside the number switch, Yamal also formally signed his new contract, first agreed in May, which ties him to Barcelona until 2031. The deal features a €1 billion release clause, a clear indication of the club’s commitment to the 18-year-old prodigy.

Now entering his third full senior season, Yamal is widely recognized as one of the most exciting attacking talents in world football, having delivered a breakout 2024-25 campaign.

Mural in Rocafonda Pays Tribute

To commemorate the milestone, a mural honoring Yamal has appeared in Rocafonda, his childhood neighborhood in Mataró. Rendered in striking graffiti with the iconic No. 10, the tribute has drawn praise from the local community and the club.

The mural, located in the 304 postcode, celebrates not only Yamal’s footballing journey but also his deep-rooted connection to the area where he grew up.

A Quiet but Symbolic Announcement

Barcelona had originally planned a grand reveal—combining the contract renewal, jersey number change, and official shirt launch. However, concerns that public celebrations could stir controversy led the club to opt for a private ceremony at the Ciutat Esportiva.

The event was attended by club president Joan Laporta, sporting director Deco, and Yamal’s family. The choice to keep things subdued reflects Barcelona’s careful strategy in managing Yamal’s rising profile.

Interestingly, the new Barça jersey was initially launched without a No. 10—prompting fans to wonder whether they could customize it. This delay was part of the club’s decision to ensure that Yamal’s transition to the No. 10 shirt is symbolic, controlled, and respectful of both legacy and future expectations.
