Late actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, known for his roles in ‘Drop Zone’ and ‘The Cosby Show’, passed away due to an accidental drowning in Costa Rica on July 20. As per reports, his daughter was pulled to safety at the time by surfers.
Malcolm and 8-year-old daughter were taken to shore by surfers
As per reports from ABC News, the actor was on a vacation with his family members, his wife and child. Surfers present at the scene shared that the actor and his daughter were seen struggling in the water. The surfers jumped in the water to help them and managed to pull Jamal’s daughter to safety.A volunteer lifeguard present at the scene assisted in bringing Malcolm, as well as another surfer who jumped into the water, to shore.
Malcolm was given 45 minutes of CPR as soon as they reached shore. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, one of the lifeguards present at the scene also shared details of the tragic event. He shared that the actor’s daughter was rescued and taken to shore quickly, while Malcolm was found later on and was transported to the shore using one of the surfboards. He shared, “They found uh Mr. Warner pretty quickly, they could see a shadow on the bottom of the seafloor, pulled him up and put him on top of the surfboard and gave the five respirations.
That was not successful”.
More on the actor’s demise
At the time of the incident, another person had been reported to be in critical condition. On July 23, according to a report from PEOPLE, Dr. Mauricio Sonalo Corella, the Medical Director for the Talamanca Health Area, shared the news that a person who had attempted to assist Malcolm had been admitted to the institute and had officially been discharged later on without complications.
