Is the Los Angeles Lakers a Luka Doncic-centered roster? It has reportedly been the plan all along when the franchise made the surprise move to bring in Doncic in a surprising and, of course, blockbuster trade with the Dallas Mavericks.
Later, the report indicated that there was a growing tension in the locker room in the subsequent months. LeBron James, who has been leading the Lakers, is still enjoying the respect in the franchise, but his player option for the 2025-26 season also tells a story.Speculations aside, on the court, the duo has been delivering remarkable performances. Recently, Doncic was awarded the Western Conference Player of the Week, while James made his presence on the court in his potentially final year.
Recently, James showered praise on Doncic, which revealed that the duo has no tension between them.

LeBron James did not hesitate when describing the significance of Doncic's late-game heroics during the dramatic 127-125 overtime win against the Denver Nuggets at Crypto.com Arena. The veteran forward spoke openly about the confidence the team places in its star guard during decisive possessions.“Just a big-time shot by a f**king generational player. He’s just a big-time player, man…. We wanted the last shot. We wanted to put the ball in our guy’s hands,” James said via ESPNJames also suggested the moment could signal the start of many similar finishes in the future.
“It’s going to be just the first of many game winners like that for him in a Lakers uniform.”Doncic recorded his seventh 30-point triple-double of the season. The outing also pushed his career total of 30-point triple-doubles to 55, tying Nikola Jokić for the second-highest mark in league history. The guard currently leads the league in scoring at 32.9 points per game. Over the previous week, he averaged 37.3 points while posting a triple-double average.
The Lakers won each of those contests, strengthening their push for a top seed in the Western Conference standings.

Recent discussions about the Lakers’ performance without James sparked debate across the league. The team has managed a strong record during stretches when the four-time champion has missed games, prompting speculation about roster balance.Rich Paul addressed those claims while appearing on the “Game Over” podcast, firmly dismissing the idea that any roster would perform better without James.“I hate to talk about the Lakers, but you have to. But you hear all the nonsense about the team being better without LeBron. I’ve never seen a team in my life that would be better without LeBron James. Not this one [the Lakers] either… I think it’s more so about figuring it out, and sometimes it takes you longer than not because for a guy that’s been on the ball so long, how do you play him off the ball?”Paul continued by pointing to the influence James carries whenever he shares the floor with teammates.Paul stressed that teammates and opponents often feel the weight of James’ presence during games. “You have to understand and factor in his presence,” Paul said as he pointed to the respect the veteran commands across the league.
