Manchester United overcame a goal deficit to secure a 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday in the Premier League. Jean-Philippe Mateta initially put the London side ahead with a first-half penalty, but Joshua Zirkzee equalized before Mason Mount’s ingenuity helped Ruben Amorim’s squad climb to sixth place in the English top-flight.

Bruno Fernandes was the provider for each of United’s strikes as he took his PL assists record to 56, one past the legendary United midfielder Paul Scholes. Fernandes is behind only Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney, and David Beckham in the assist tally at United. Former English internationals Beckham and Rooney have 88 and 93 assists respectively for the Red Devils in the English top-flight, while Welsh icon Giggs towers everyone with an astounding 162 assists to his name.

Jean-Philippe Mateta’s initial penalty was disallowed due to a double-touch, yet he successfully converted the retake, giving Crystal Palace the lead, which they maintained until the half-time break.

In the second half, United’s comeback started when Joshua Zirkzee capitalized on a freekick delivered by Bruno Fernandes to equalize. Mason Mount then turned the tide for United, scoring three minutes after the hour mark to secure the lead for Amorim and his team.

Fernandes has been United’s go-to man since his arrival in England in 2020 from Potuguese side Sporting Lisbon and has shouldered the hopes of the Red faithful with stand-out performances as United battle to restore former glory to the fabled badge.

United put behind last week’s disappointment at home against 10-man Everton and claimed victory on the road in London. They provisionally climbed to sixth in the English top-flight with 21 points from 13 games, one place above Oliver Glasner’s Eagles, who sit seventh with a point fewer.
