Karnataka BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra on Friday said that the World Environment Day should not be restricted to just one day, but celebrated throughout the year, considering the harm that has been done to nature. “The impact of the damage done to our environment is being felt by us, and climate change is prominently visible,” he said.
Speaking after inaugurating the seed ball distribution programme at Suttur, he called for the complete shunning of single-use plastic use, which, according to him, must start from our homes. “When you go back to your homes, make sure you stop using plastic (single-use),” he advised the participants.
Praising the Suttur Math for its initiatives and concern towards the environment, he said that people have forgotten their duties and are causing more harm to the environment. “This has led to global warming. The concern towards the environment is on the decline, and natural disasters are more frequent due to the damage.”
Mr. Vijayendra said it is equally important to safeguard the environment along with the advancement of technological developments. ”Sparrows have disappeared and even butterflies are not seen as prominently as they were earlier. Saving trees and planting more trees are the need of the hour to save our nature,” he added.
MP for Mysuru Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, who spoke on the occasion, complimented the Suttur Math for the seed ball initiative considering the need to plant more trees and protect our environment. “The Math is known for its services in various fields, including education and health, and I am happy to participate in this programme visiting Suttur.”
Mr. Yaduveer also recalled the association between the Math and the Mysuru Palace.
Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji of Suttur Math also spoke at the event.
