Lewis Hamilton rejects retirement rumours, says he is fully committed to Ferrari until 2027, focused on progress and a better Canadian Grand Prix after skipping simulator work

Lewis Hamilton has dismissed growing speculation about his Formula One future, insisting he remains fully committed to racing with Ferrari and has no plans to retire any time soon.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, the seven-time world champion stressed that his focus is firmly on improving with Ferrari despite a challenging start to his stint with the Italian team. Hamilton joined Ferrari from Mercedes last year but is still chasing his first victory in red.

The British driver, who turns 42 next January, confirmed that his current agreement with Ferrari runs until 2027.

“I’m still under contract so everything’s 100% clear to me," he was quoted as saying at the press conference for the Canadian Grand Prix when asked about next season.

“I’m still focused, I’m still motivated. I still love what I do with all my heart and I’m going to be here for quite some time, so get used to it."

Will He Retire?

Lewis Hamilton also addressed the growing retirement rumours circulating around the paddock and in the media.

“There are a lot of people that are trying to retire me and that’s not even in my thoughts."

Widely regarded as one of the greatest drivers in Formula One history, Hamilton still holds the sport’s all-time records for race wins and pole positions. His first Formula One victory came at the Canadian Grand Prix in 2007 during his rookie season with McLaren, while his most recent triumph came in Belgium in 2024.

Reflecting on his current phase in Formula One, Hamilton said that personal growth matters more to him than statistics or headlines.

“From the outside world results are what people call success, but I think internally, for me, it’s just progress," Hamilton said.

“If you’re progressing, then you’re succeeding. I don’t really put a lot of pressure on."

Hamilton also revealed that he changed his preparation approach for the Canadian race weekend by skipping Ferrari’s simulator sessions in Maranello.

“So it’s kind of hit and miss. I just decided, for this one, I’m just going to sit it out and focus more on the data."
