Formula One has always sold the image of perfection — drivers operating at 200 mph with robotic precision, absorbing data, calculating risk and reacting in milliseconds.
Lewis Hamilton has changed that.
Now racing for Scuderia Ferrari, the seven-time world champion has been increasingly open about living with ADHD and dyslexia.
In F1’s recent ‘Meet The 2026 Formula 1 Drivers’ segment, Hamilton described how ADHD shapes his daily life in ways both frustrating and revealing.

“I’m ADHD," he said candidly. “When I walk into my house, I’ll move all the books into perfect position. If a lamp is tilted, it really frustrates me." He admitted to spending nearly an hour rearranging things before even sitting down, only to realise time had slipped away unnoticed.
The challenges run deeper than household quirks. Hamilton has also previously spoken about how difficult school was after being diagnosed with dyslexia.
In a 2025 interview, he described his classroom experience as “the worst," recalling how he struggled long before his racing talent was recognised.
But perspective came with time.
When his niece discovered she was dyslexic, Hamilton reassured her: You’re no less. Your mind just works in different ways.
For him, that difference became a strength.
In 2020, he also shared how ADHD affects simple routines, from cooking to choosing something to watch while eating. “We’re all weird in our own ways," he said. “That’s just one of my weirdisms."
Beyond racing, Hamilton has channelled his experiences into action. In 2021, he founded Mission 44, an initiative focused on helping young people thrive in education and pursue STEM careers.
