Lift operator assaulted by residents, FIR against 4

Gurgaon: A lift operator at Signature Global Orchard Avenue in Sector 93 was allegedly thrashed with sticks by a group of residents following a dispute over a lift malfunction at 4.30pm on June 9.In his complaint, the operator, Gaurav Jha, said he was servicing the lift of Tower B around 4.30pm with the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) team when he got a call informing that a lift in Tower I had stopped midway and a few people was stuck inside.Jha said he rushed towards Tower I and climbed the stairs to the seventh floor. By the time he reached there, the lift had restarted and reached the ground floor, following which the occupants came out.He further added that a dispute broke out between some residents and maintenance staff. He alleged that Bharat, a resident of the society, his father, Vivek, and other people present at the started abusing him over the technical faults in the lift.When he tried to respond, they allegedly attacked him with sticks on his back, head and eye, following which he suffered severe bleeding and also sustained serious injuries to his eye.

Police said that Jha was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment where his medical examination was conducted, howevever, due to the seriousness of the eye injury, doctors referred him to AIIMS, Delhi, for further treatment.The estate manager of Signature Global Orchard Avenue, Vikas Upadhyay, submitted a complaint, claiming that Jha was assaulted while he was performing his duty.An officer privy to the investigation said that an FIR was registered against four people — Chandra Sekhar, Bharat, Vivek and

.The officer said, “We are examining CCTV footage, medical documents and statements of witnesses to ascertain the sequence of events. Further action will be taken after the investigation.”The accused party has also filed a complaint alleging that one of the family members suffered serious an injury to one of his fingers. “We are analysing the complaint. Further investigation is underway,” the officer stated.
