With the 2026 season just weeks away, Netflix has locked in the perfect pre-season warm-up: Formula 1: Drive to Survive Season 8 drops on February 27.

The new season will pull back the curtain on a chaotic, dramatic 2025 campaign, one that delivered plenty of fireworks both on and off the track — including Christian Horner’s shock sacking by Red Bull, Lewis Hamilton’s horror first season at Ferrari, and the incredible three-way battle for the 2025 F1 Drivers’ Championship title.

2025 F1 Championship battle in full focus

For many, 2025 was a transition year with the new regulations set to be introduced this year.

But, at the heart of it all was a wild Drivers’ Championship battle.

Oscar Piastri burst out of the blocks and quickly looked like the man to beat, staking an early claim as title favourite. But just when the season seemed to be tilting his way, Max Verstappen roared back into contention, launching a relentless second-half surge that reignited the championship fight.

While Piastri hit a rough patch, McLaren’s other ace, Lando Norris, quietly gathered momentum. Race by race, the Briton grew stronger — and when it mattered most, he delivered. Norris clinched his maiden World Championship by just two points, sealing the title in a nail-biting Abu Dhabi finale.

Beyond the title race, Season 8 dives into a scrappy, unpredictable midfield battle, where margins were tiny, and tempers often flared.

Add to that a steady stream of off-track storylines, internal team tensions, and paddock politics, and there was no shortage of material for Netflix’s cameras.

New Season Out Just Days Before F1 2026 Kicks Off

The release couldn’t be better timed. Drive to Survive lands just days before the lights go out for the first race of the new era, with the Australian Grand Prix launching the 24-round 2026 calendar from March 6–8.

One thing’s certain: by the time the engines fire up in Melbourne, fans will be fully locked in.
