Local liquor prices have been increased in Uttar Pradesh. From April 1, country liquor will cost more per bottle under the new excise policy

Under the new excise policy, the quota for local liquor shops in urban areas will be reduced.
The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved the state’s new excise policy, which will come into effect from April 1. The policy introduces changes in liquor pricing, licensing, shop allocation, and export provisions.
Price Hike In Local And Foreign Liquor
Starting April 1, the price of local liquor in Uttar Pradesh will increase by around Rs 5 per bottle. Local liquor with 36% alcohol content will rise from Rs 165 to Rs 173 per bottle.
After the new policy comes into force, foreign liquor will become costlier by Rs 10 to Rs 30 per bottle. The price hike in local liquor applies per bottle, and rates for half-quarter and miniature bottles have also been increased. However, there is no change in the prices of other liquor categories under the current revision.
Additionally, for the first time, a 100 ml miniature pack of local liquor, popularly called a Baccha, with 42.8 degree strength has been introduced. It will be available in the market at Rs 50.
The state government has fixed an excise revenue target of Rs 71,278 crore for the financial year 2026-27.
Changes In Shop Quota, Allocation And License Fees
Under the new policy, the quota for local liquor shops in urban areas will be reduced. Retail liquor shops across the state will now be allotted through an e-lottery system.
The overall quota has been increased by 7.5%.
The license fee for retail Foreign liquor shops has also been increased by 7.5%. A similar 7.5% hike has also been applied to beer licenses, in line with Foreign liquor.
Special Provision For Low-Alcohol Beverages In Key Cities
In cities including Noida, Ghaziabad, Agra, Prayagraj, Varanasi, and Lucknow, separate licenses will be granted for the sale of low-alcohol beverages such as beer, wine, and ready-to-drink (RTD) products for off-premise consumption.
Export Boost For UP-Made Liquor
Liquor and other excise products manufactured in Uttar Pradesh can now be exported to international markets under the new excise framework.
The new excise policy, effective April 1, introduces multiple structural and pricing changes aimed at boosting revenue, streamlining licensing, and expanding market opportunities.
