Lisa Mishra confirms wrap of Ananya Panday starrer 'Call Me Bae' Season 2 and teases return of Ishaan Khatter led 'The Royals' Season 2
Singer-songwriter and actor Lisa Mishra is balancing two thriving careers, and the journey has only made her more determined to grow. While audiences have appreciated her performances in web series like 'Call Me Bae' and 'The Royals', Lisa is also preparing to return to music with a renewed perspective.
Opening up about her career, she reflected on her evolution as an actor, shared updates on both upcoming seasons, and explained why she believes the music industry needs to embrace originality over formulas.
Lisa Mishra says acting has become her biggest classroom
Lisa believes every project has helped her sharpen her acting skills, not by competing with her co-stars but by observing them closely. She says spending time with experienced performers has taught her valuable lessons about everything from memorising dialogues to understanding camera techniques and screen presence.Speaking to Hindustan Times about her learning process, Lisa said, “As an actor, I’m obviously evolving because I’m absorbing everybody else’s skills around me. I’m sort of able to see how these experts who’ve been doing this for way longer than I have are on set, what sort of tools they use to help them remember their lines, their positioning, how to be camera-facing, how to be engaging on screen, and how to deliver dialogue.
"
Sharing screen space with industry veterans keeps her grounded
Despite earning recognition as both an actor and musician, Lisa says she has never viewed success as a destination. Instead, working alongside stars like Zeenat Aman in 'The Royals' and Ananya Panday in 'Call Me Bae' constantly reminds her that she must continue proving herself. She explained, “I don’t think I said I deserve to be there, but that I have to earn the right to be there. Rather than making a point of saying, ‘Listen, I got here on merit,’ it’s actually the opposite.
It’s that somehow I feel I’m lucky to even be here when there’s people who are far more seasoned and perhaps more deserving of this. So I have to prove that I’m worthy of this space because the people opposite me are like Zeenat Aman in The Royals and Ananya in Call Me Bae herself… The finish line isn’t when I stepped on set.
That’s just the beginning point."
How acting transformed her approach to music
Lisa credits acting for bringing greater discipline into her musical life.
While songwriting often involves creative highs and lows, she says the structured environment of film sets has helped her develop consistency and a stronger work ethic.Sharing the impact, she said, “Acting pays back my musical side through diligence. There’s a schedule and routine that actors live by that can help structure me better as a musician. When you are the writer, composer, lyricist, and ideator, you can suffer long writing blocks and artistic lulls—which actors are very good at breaking out of because their job demands it."
'Call Me Bae' Season 2 is complete while 'The Royals' returns soon
Lisa also had exciting news for fans eagerly awaiting her upcoming projects. She confirmed that filming for 'Call Me Bae' Season 2 has already wrapped, with the new season expected to premiere either towards the end of this year or early next year. She further revealed that production on 'The Royals' Season 2 is expected to begin within the next few months.Giving an update, she said, “Season two we’ve wrapped already for Call Me Bae and that’ll be releasing by the end of the year or beginning of next year.
And The Royals, we have yet to start shooting but we’re going to events very soon. We don’t have definite timelines, but it’s within the next few months mostly that we’re looking to shoot. So, I’m anticipating sometime next year for Royals season 2 as well."
Why Lisa Mishra stepped away from music for a while
Although acting kept her occupied, Lisa revealed that her temporary break from music was intentional. She wanted to reconnect with the joy that first inspired her to write and perform, instead of treating music purely as a profession. She reflected, “With every decade of my life, I’ve evolved into different understandings of what this means to me. In my adolescence, it was discovery learning the guitar and chords by myself as a self-taught musician. In my late teens and early 20s, it was passion-driven content creation. When I moved to India, it became a career. Now, it’s about going back in time to that discovery and innocence. Anything feels like a job if you do it enough, and somewhere I think I got lost in how to keep it exciting.

Lisa Mishra urges the music industry to value originality
Looking at the current state of the music business, Lisa believes artists are increasingly being encouraged to follow trends instead of experimenting with fresh ideas. According to her, lasting success comes from individuality rather than recreating what has already worked. She concluded, “I think what the music industry doesn’t understand is that discovery has to happen organically and it can’t be spoon-fed… The industry kind of fails to see that individuality is ultimately what works, not formulas.
The more we push artists towards creating something and regurgitating existing brands of work, the less an audience will actually respond to it because they’re not finding anything fresh or exciting.
"As she looks ahead, Lisa hopes to take on more challenging acting roles while simultaneously returning to music with projects that truly reflect her artistic identity. She is also keen on creating more original English-language songs alongside her acting commitments.
