Litigation involving former cricketer Sadanand Vishwanath among 3.01 lakh pending court cases settled in KSLSA’s Lok Adalat

The national-level Lok Adalat organised by the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) on December 13 witnessed settlement of 3.01 lakh litigations pending in various courts across the State, including one between former cricketer Sadanand Vishwanath and his tenants.

Addressing a press conference, Justice Anu Sivarama, judge of the High Court of Karnataka and the executive chairperson of KSLSA, said that 1.04 crore pre-litigation cases, including 24.29 lakh traffic challan cases, were also settled as part of the Lok Adalat.

Mr. Vishwanath, a former India wicket-keeper, had settled the suit, initiated by his tenants, D. Chandra Shekar and others, in 2024, challenging action initiated by him to evict them. The dispute was settled as the prime tenant agreed to vacate the premises on receiving the lease rental deposit amount of ₹35 lakh from Mr. Vishwanath.

A 92-year-old woman put an end to her litigation with her son, who joined the Lok Adalat in Ramanagara through videoconference from London, and this was among the 2,144 litigations involving senior citizens that were settled.

The Lok Adalat also witnessed the reunion of 367 couples.

The resolution of 13,517 cheque dishonour cases, 4,660 motor vehicle accident claims, and cases of execution of awards of land acquisition, accident claim compensation, disputes before the real estate regulatory authority, consumer dispute redressal fora, debt recovery tribunal, etc., have resulted in payment of around ₹3,100 crore that was stick in the legal proceedings.
