As investigators continue to unravel the conspiracy behind Pune businessman Ketan Agarwal’s murder, one question has emerged repeatedly—how much did Siya Goyal’s family know about her relationship with co-accused Chetan Chaudhary?

Police sources have indicated that members of Siya’s family were aware of her relationship with Chetan, but did not approve of the match. The revelation has added a new dimension to a case that investigators allege involved weeks of planning, multiple failed murder attempts and an eventual fatal push from Lohagad Fort.

What Police Sources Are Saying

According to information emerging from the investigation, Siya and Chetan had been in a relationship before her engagement to Ketan Agarwal was finalised. Sources familiar with the probe say her family knew about the relationship but opposed it, allegedly because they did not consider Chetan a suitable match.

Investigators are now examining whether family opposition to the relationship played a role in Siya’s decision to go ahead with the engagement to Ketan while continuing her relationship with Chetan. So far, police have not accused any member of Siya’s family of involvement in the alleged murder conspiracy.

Meanwhile, Ketan’s family members have told investigators that Ketan had recently started expressing concerns about Siya’s closeness to another man and had raised doubts about aspects of her background.

Ketan’s Father Weighs In

Adding another layer to the story is an account provided by Ketan’s father, Anil Agarwal, who has challenged suggestions that the marriage was pushed through solely from his family’s side.

Agarwal said his family had initially rejected the marriage proposal because Ketan was not ready to marry at the time and Siya, they felt, was too young. According to him, it was Siya’s family that repeatedly approached them and persuaded them to reconsider. “We had declined the proposal initially. Her family kept requesting us and eventually we agreed," Agarwal said.

“We had known Goyal’s family for 35-40 years. We never imagined something like this could happen."

Detailing how the incident unfolded at the fort, Agarwal said: “Chetan Chaudhary arrived at the Lohagad Fort on a two-wheeler…The two (Chetan Chaudhary and Siya Goyal) went up together, hit Ketan with an object, and threw him down from the top."

He also hit out at Siya and her family, saying she could have “simply refused if she didn’t want to get married". “We would have cancelled the wedding immediately. Why did they decide to take such a drastic step? What kind of mindset do they have? Their mindset is so cruel that someone’s 26-year-old son could be killed… Society needs to take note of such a cruel mindset. Where does this ideology come from, their family, their upbringing?"

An Engagement Followed By An Alleged Murder Plot

Police allege that despite getting engaged to Ketan, Siya remained in contact with Chetan and the two eventually conspired to eliminate him.

Investigators claim the alleged plot unfolded over several weeks. Among the details that have emerged are the facts that Siya allegedly stole or hid Ketan’s passport, leading to the cancellation of a planned Bali trip for a pre-wedding shoot; police say there were at least three unsuccessful attempts to kill Ketan before the murder; investigators believe the accused repeatedly visited Lohagad Fort and waited for the right opportunity and on June 18, Ketan was allegedly lured to the fort under the pretext of celebrating Siya’s birthday.

Police allege that Chetan followed the couple separately and joined them at the fort before Ketan was pushed into a gorge.

The Family’s Growing Suspicions

The case initially appeared to be a trekking accident. According to investigators, Siya told police that Ketan had slipped while taking photographs. But his family was unconvinced.

Ketan’s relatives pointed to his trekking experience and questioned the circumstances surrounding the fall. Their insistence reportedly prompted a deeper investigation, which eventually led police to examine Siya’s relationship with Chetan and the events leading up to the death.

Did The Family Know About The Affair?

Police sources indicate that Siya’s family was aware of her relationship with Chetan and did not approve of it. Ketan’s father, meanwhile, has claimed that Siya’s family actively pursued the marriage alliance with his son after his family initially declined the proposal.

What remains unclear is whether Siya’s family knew the relationship with Chetan continued after the engagement, whether they were aware of the extent of the couple’s plans and whether they had any knowledge of the alleged conspiracy that police say culminated in Ketan’s death.
