Lokayukta SPE catches MP power engineer taking Rs 2,000 bribe in Damoh

Bhopal: The Lokayukta’s Special Police Establishment on Thursday caught an assistant engineer of Madhya Pradesh Poorv Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Company Ltd allegedly accepting a Rs 2,000 bribe in Damoh district.Rajesh Kumar Sahay, 57, posted as assistant engineer at the Hatta sub-division, was arrested in a trap laid by the Lokayukta SPE’s Sagar unit. An outsourced meter reader, Sandeep Pateriya, 43, has also been named as a co-accused.According to Lokayukta officials, complainant Indra Kumar Patel, who runs a water purification plant in Hatta, alleged that the assistant engineer found during an inspection that the unit had a lower-capacity electricity connection than required.

The engineer and the meter reader allegedly demanded Rs 7,000 to avoid reporting the violation and imposing a penalty.After Patel approached the Lokayukta SPE with a complaint, officials verified the allegations and laid a trap. Rajesh Kumar Sahay was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting Rs 2,000 as part of the demanded bribe.Further investigation is underway.
