Saini's remarks came as Gurugram has come under mounting criticism over the city's lack of preparedness for heavy rains, as extensive waterlogging has disrupted normal life.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini cited the recent floods in California, US, and said one cannot do anything against nature, amid mounting criticism over the recent floods in Gurugram, which have sparked ridicule over the Millennium City’s infrastructural problems.
Gurugram has been inundated for the past few days due to heavy rainfall that has resulted in extensive waterlogging, creating a near-flood-like situation in the city. The extensive waterlogging has choked several roads, including the old Gurugram-Delhi road, Hero Honda Chowk, Subhash Chowk and more.
However, CM Saini said it was not possible to take on nature and heavy rainfall is bound to cause damage. “Look at America — a country that calls itself powerful — even its city, California, gets flooded due to heavy rain," he was quoted as saying by India Today on Saturday, in reference to the recent floods in California.
Last month, life-threatening flash floods hit parts of Southern California, prompting the National Weather Service (NWS) to issue a series of urgent warnings across the region, reported Newsweek. The flood warning comes as heavy rain has battered parts of the United States throughout the first half of July.
However, Saini admitted that there is a need to “improve the system" in the face of heavy rainfall. “We are working swiftly. Gurugram is a developing city, and we are striving to bring it up to international standards," he added.
A viral clip of kids on the waterlogged streets of Gurugram swimming amidst torrential rains sparked concerns and debates over social media. These kids stood unperturbed by the worrying situation and took a dip in the pool while also floating around.

“Gurugram is a mess. Every year, crores of taxpayers’ money are spent on cleaning drains. First rain, and the results are there for everyone to see. You need to improve the drainage system. When was the last time a new stormwater drain was laid?" one X user posted.
Meanwhile, the district administration recently said that they are working to overcome the problems faced by the citizens due to the rain.
