Vivian Spohr, the wife of Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr, ran over a babysitter during vacation in Italy earlier this week, leading to the death of the victim. Shortly after the accident, Vivian reportedly flew back to Germany.

According to media reports cited by AP, Vivian Spohr was driving an SUV when it struck a pedestrian at a crosswalk on Tuesday in Porto Cervo. The victim, identified as Gaia Costa, 24, was a resident of Tempio Pausania in the Gallura region of northern Sardinia. She died at the scene from serious head injuries.

Vivian’s lawyer also issued an official statement following the accident. In the statement, the German businesswoman expressed “dismay and deep sorrow for this grave accident, which has devastated a family, the town of Tempio, and the entire community of Gallura."

The statement further added that she places herself “at the complete disposal of the Italian judicial authorities for the necessary investigations and, while aware that such a great personal loss cannot be repaired, will take steps to mitigate its consequences."

According to a report by local L’Unione Sarda, Vivian underwent alcohol and drug tests, which were negative. Her car is under technical probe.

Vivian has returned to her home in Berlin and is reportedly cooperating with the investigation. She has also made herself available to the Italian judicial authorities.
