Salman Khan's 'Maatrubhumi', based on the 2020 Galwan Valley clash, may miss its August release as CBFC has reportedly withheld clearance. Previously titled Battle of Galwan, the film also faced backlash in China. Salman plays Colonel Santosh Babu. Salman Khan's ‘Maatrubhumi’, based on the 2020 Galwan Valley confrontation between Indian and Chinese forces, was originally slated for an April 17 release to coincide with Eid. The date was later postponed, with the film then expected to hit theatres in August.
However, reports now suggest that the CBFC has put the film on hold, making it unlikely that it will meet the August deadline either.

According to NDTV, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has held back the clearance certificate for Salman’s ‘Maatrubhumi’, previously titled ‘Battle of Galwan’, until further orders.
Salman Khan's ‘Maatrubhumi’ sparks controversy in China
Even prior to its release, the film had stirred controversy in China. After its teaser made its way online, several Weibo users accused the movie of presenting a distorted account of the Galwan Valley clash.
The Ministry of External Affairs addressed the matter in January, saying that filmmaking-related issues in India are dealt with by "relevant authorities" and that the MEA plays "no role" in such matters.
Salman Khan's ‘Maatrubhumi’ teaser released on his birthday
The makers unveiled the film's teaser on December 27, 2025, coinciding with Salman Khan's 60th birthday. Salman plays Colonel Santosh Babu in the film, the commanding officer of the 16 Bihar Regiment, who led Indian troops during the clash while carrying out a disengagement agreement at the border.
