New Delhi: Google has been reported to be working on a dedicated Gemini application for Apple’s macOS. Google is now gearing up to offer a native Mac application for its AI assistant, rather than relying only on the web version.
This application is reported to be being experimented with by a small group of users as part of the beta programme. Desktop Intelligence features are in development that could enable Gemini to access on-screen content and other applications to deliver more context-aware responses.
Google has also started to share an early version of the Gemini application with select testers outside the company.
Google has also reported and stated that this is an early version of the Gemini for Mac application for the users’ feedback and will have only critical features from other clients, but not all. This also suggests that the current version is still limited and does not include all planned features.
The beta version of the application still offers several capabilities. These also include generating images, video, music, tables, and charts, alongside handling the maths problems and information analysis. This application can also search the web, review past conversations, and analyze uploaded files.
The application also supports personalization and can work with different types of media and documents. The application also includes the features called Desktop Intelligence. This feature will enable the Gemini to access the content from other applications on Mac, such as calendars, to offer more context-aware responses.
The development comes as the AI companies race to make their chatbots more accessible. Rivals like OpenAI and Anthropic already provide dedicated Mac applications for ChatGPT and Claude. With a native macOS application, Google has reported experimenting to close this gap and to make Gemini easier to use on desktop devices.
