The much-hyped collaboration between Sivakarthikeyan and AR Murugadoss in 'Madharasi' is finding it tough to hold its ground at the box office.Despite a strong start in its opening weekend, the film’s momentum has sharply declined, and now the action flick is finding it hard to even cross Rs 60 crores at the box office.
Sharp decline for Sivakarthikeyan's film after initial weekend
As reported by the Sacnilk website, 'Madharasi' opened on a high, raking in Rs 13.65 crore on Day 1, followed by Rs 12.1 crore and Rs 11.4 crore on Saturday and Sunday. Unfortunately, the film faced a steep fall on its first Monday, dropping by more than 60% to ₹4.15 crore. The downward trend continued throughout the first week as the film settled at a week one total of ₹49 crore.
Struggles in second week
In its second week, 'Madharasi' saw only small sparks of recovery.
Day 9 (Saturday) managed to bring in Rs 2.9 crore, but the relief was short-lived.

By Day 12 (Tuesday), the film had slipped to Rs 1 crore net (early estimates) across all languages. This brought its total to Rs 58.7 crore India net. On Day 12, the Tamil version reported an overall occupancy of 16.42%, with night shows peaking at 17.64%.
A disappointing collaboration
Sivakarthikeyan's team up with the 'Thuppakki' director AR Murugadoss had created a lot of hype among the SK fan.
But 'Madharasi' failed to impress both fans and general audiences, although Vidyut Kammwal's screen presence and performance received much love. The action flick also features Biju Menon, Vikranth, Prem Kumar, Monisha Vijay and many others in pivotal roles. With the film now struggling to touch the Rs 60 crore mark, its chances of emerging as a major commercial success look slim. On the other hand, Sivakarthikeyan's previous film was 'Amaran'.DISCLAIMER: The box office numbers in this article are compiled from our proprietary sources and diverse public data.
