A district hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Panna administered an expired RL (Ringer Lactate) bottle to an 11-year-old child during treatment. Moreover, even the bottle brought in as a replacement was found expired.

The RL solution, which is directly injected into the veins, can have an immediate and serious impact on a patient's body. Despite this, the expired bottle was used carelessly.

According to the child’s family, the boy's condition started deteriorating soon after the bottle was administered. Upon calling the on-duty nurse, they discovered that the expiration date of the bottle had already passed in March 2025. The staff immediately removed the expired bottle. However, the replacement bottle brought in was also found to be expired with a printed expiration date of June 2025.

The child’s family alleged gross negligence, claiming, "Serious negligence has been committed towards the child's health. No doctor has come to see him yet."

Reacting to the incident, Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) of Panna, Dr Rajesh Tiwari acknowledged the severity of the lapse. He said, "This is a serious case of negligence. An investigation will be conducted, and the responsible staff will be punished."
