Madras High Court stays DVAC Inspector’s suspension

The Madras High Court has stayed the operation of a suspension order passed against Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) Inspector of Police G. Vimala after arriving at a prima facie view that the suspension order appeared to be “motivated.”

Justice P.T. Asha stayed till July 9, 2026, the suspension order passed by the Deputy Director of DVAC on June 17, 2026, and granted time till the next date of hearing for the Deputy Director as well as the Director to file their counter affidavits to the Inspector’s writ petition.

On perusing the documents produced by the petitioner, the judge found that the suspension order appeared to have been issued for having registered a First Information Report against another woman Inspector of Police serving in the Anti-Vice squad of Greater Chennai police.

Observing that the FIR appeared to have been registered only with the approval of the superior officials in the DVAC, the judge wrote: “This court is of the prima facie view that the impugned (under challenge) suspension order is motivated. Therefore, it shall be stayed till July 9, 2026.”
