Madurai: Madurai airport recorded 39°C on Wednesday, the highest maximum temperature reported in Tamil Nadu along with Vamban in Pudukottai, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data updated at 5.30pm. The station recorded no rainfall, while relative humidity stood at 48% in the evening.Wednesday’s 39°C was 1.5°C above normal for Madurai. IMD forecast the same maximum temperature for Thursday and Friday, with partly cloudy sky and the possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorm.The temperature is likely to ease from the weekend, with IMD forecasting 38°C on Saturday and Sunday, 37°C on Monday and 36°C on Tuesday, with light rain conditions continuing.IMD forecast moderate rain or thunderstorm over Theni and Dindigul on Thursday and Friday, followed by light rain till Tuesday. Trichy is forecast to see partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers on Thursday, followed by generally cloudy conditions with light rain through Tuesday.IMD’s broader forecast for Tamil Nadu said maximum temperatures are likely to show no large change till June 28 and remain near normal over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
