In a notable development, Magadh University's top official, Vice-Chancellor Shashi Pratap Shahi, has been granted an extension by Governor Arif Mohammed Khan. His tenure, originally slated to conclude on February 14, will now proceed on an interim basis until a new Vice-Chancellor is appointed.
Gaya: Governor-cum-chancellor of universities, Arif Mohammed Khan, has given extension to Magadh University vice-chancellor Shashi Pratap Shahi. Shahi’s three-year term is to expire on Feb 14.A notification (11/2022-172/GS-I) issued by Robert L Chongthu, principal secretary to the governor said that Shahi will continue to perform the duties after the expiry of his current term till the appointment of a regular VC or until further orders whichever is earlier. The notification said it is a purely temporary arrangement.However, the notification restrains the VC from taking policy decisions without the prior approval of the chancellor.Earlier on Dec 2, 2025 the chancellor’s office invited applications for appointment to the post of MU VC. The deadline for the application ended on Jan 5. Several aspirants from the state and outside have applied for the post.The appointment is to be made on the basis of the recommendation of a search committee constituted for the purpose. The appointment has to follow ‘effective’ consultation between the chancellor and the state govt.
