India No. 1 Arjun Erigaisi failed to handle the German attack of Vincent Keymer and lost his quarterfinal contest of the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Finals in South Africa on Tuesday.
World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen rallied from a game down to beat Fabiano Caruana in the first set of tiebreaks to enter the semifinal and emerge as Freestyle Grand Slam Tour champion on points. With a handy lead in the calendar year, Carlsen just needed to be in the top four in South Africa.

Youngest World Cup winner Javokhir Sindarov won both his games versus Parham Maghsoodloo. In the semis, Sindarov will face Carlsen. In the last quarterfinal, Levon Aronian outclassed Hans Niemann 3-1 to meet Keymer. Arjun will now face Niemann.
