World No. 1 and five-time World Champion, Magnus Carlsen, claimed the Norway Chess 2025 title after reigning World Champion and second-placed in the leaderboard, D. Gukesh, blundered his position to lose on the spot against the USA’s Fabiano Caruana in the final round of the event held in Stavanger, Norway on Friday.

Carlsen was held to a draw by India’s Arjun Erigaisi in their final round contest, but only Gukesh could have caught him on the leaderboard had he won his classical round against Caruana.

Caruana finished second with 15.5 points while Gukesh finished third with 14.5 points.

In the women’s section, Ukraine’s Anna Muzychuk won the event after her classical round ended in a draw against India’s R. Vaishali and Koneru Humpy failed to beat Ju Wenjun in their match-up.
