Kumbh Mela minister Girish Mahajan on Monday inaugurates a 1.1km stretch of the upgraded Trimbak Road, opening it to traffic in the presence of NMC commissioner Manisha Khatri and Kumbh Mela Authority commissioner Shekhar Singh
Nashik: Kumbh Mela minister Girish Mahajan on Monday inaugurated a 1.1km upgraded stretch of Trimbak Road, easing congestion and boosting connectivity between western Nashik, the Satpur industrial estate and Trimbakeshwar ahead of the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela. The stretch was opened at an event jointly organised by the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority and the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) under the campaign, ‘Trimbak Road Ready with Warkaris’. The newly opened stretch runs from the ITI signal to the Satpur divisional office of NMC. At present, one carriageway has been made operational to facilitate traffic while work on the remaining portions continues. The Trimbak Road upgrade is a key infrastructure project being undertaken in preparation for the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela. Officials said the 8.5km corridor has been divided into two segments — a 3.5km stretch from Khadkali signal to ITI signal and a 5km stretch from ITI signal to the NMC limits.“Work on the remaining portions is progressing and will be completed in phases. Significant progress has been made on other sections of the project.
Stretches between Trimbak Naka and MICO Circle, as well as from ITI signal to the municipal limits, are nearing completion and are currently undergoing finishing work,” a senior civic official said. All underground utility work on the newly opened stretch has been completed, including the installation of optical fibre cables along with MahaIT CCTV infrastructure, MNGL gas pipelines, sewerage lines and water supply networks.
"Completion of these works is essential before undertaking the white-topping process,” another civic official said.Mayor Himgauri Aher-Adke, deputy mayor Vilas Shinde, standing committee chairman Machhindra Sanap, Kumbh Mela Authority commissioner Shekhar Singh, municipal commissioner Manisha Khatri and other senior civic officials attended the event and later inspected the road.Road’s quality checks showed a concrete thickness of 185mm, exceeding the minimum requirement of 180mm, indicating compliance with prescribed standards.
The project uses bonded white-topping technology, which enhances the durability and load-bearing capacity of the existing pavement.Municipal commissioner Manisha Khatri said the stretch was opened in view of the increased movement of warkaris and devotees heading to Trimbakeshwar for Ashadhi Ekadashi. “The influx of pilgrims has made smooth traffic flow a priority. Opening this stretch will help reduce congestion and facilitate easier movement for both citizens and devotees. With all utility work completed, we are able to provide a seamless and obstruction-free route,” she said. With traffic on the Nashik-Trimbak corridor steadily rising, the upgraded stretch is expected to ease congestion and improve travel time for commuters, industrial workers and pilgrims alike.
