The self-styled godman carried out inhumane acts — beating people with sticks, forcing them to hold shoes in their mouths, and even making them drink urine — all in the name of exorcism.
The video, recorded on July 17 at around 1 pm, shows the godman forcing a man to lie on the ground, pressing his foot on the man's neck, and threatening him with a wooden stick placed on his stomach.
A self-styled godman in Maharashtra's Sambhajinagar is under scanner after reports of his inhumane acts — beating people with sticks, forcing them to hold shoes in their mouths, and even making them drink urine in the name of exorcism — came to the attention of local authorities.
Soon after, the godman fled with his followers and remains on the run.
He has also been accused of inappropriately touching women.
In a video that has gone viral, the godman, identified as Sanjay Ranganath Pagar, is seen pouring colour on a man while beating a drum and chanting "Alakh Niranjan, Alakh Niranjan."
He then forcibly lifts the young man and strikes his nose with a shoe.
The video, recorded on July 17 at around 1 pm, further shows the 'baba' forcing the man to lie on the ground, pressing his foot on the man's neck, and threatening him with a wooden stick placed on his stomach.
The incident was brought to the notice of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Anti-Superstition Committee, following which they reached the village, exposed the 'baba', and subsequently filed a case at the local police station.
The godman has been missing since then. The police have formed two teams and launched a manhunt.
The local police further warned that anyone found spreading superstitious beliefs will not be spared and will face strict legal action.
