Maharashtra Shocker: Baby Born On Bus, Then Thrown Out Of Window By Mother

In a shocking incident, the woman allegedly threw the newborn out of the window shortly after his birth on a moving bus in Maharashtra.

A 19-year-old woman gave birth to a baby on a running bus in Maharashtra’s Parbhani and then allegedly threw the newborn boy out of the window with the help of a man claiming to be her husband, officials said.

The baby died after being thrown off the bus on the road. The incident took place at around 6.30 am on the Pathri-Selu Road on Tuesday.

The incident came to light when a resident spotted the baby being thrown out of the window, wrapped in a cloth. Upon being confronted later, the couple said that the woman had vomited out of the window.

The couple was identified as Ritika Dhere and Altaf Shaikh, who were travelling to Parbhani from Pune in a sleeper coach of Sant Prayag Travels.

“A woman, identified as Ritika Dhere, was travelling to Parbhani from Pune along with Altaf Shaikh, who claimed to be her husband, in the sleeper coach bus of Sant Prayag Travels. During their journey, the woman, who was pregnant, started experiencing labour pains and gave birth to a baby boy. However, the couple put the baby in a piece of cloth and threw him out of the vehicle," news agency PTI quoted a police official as saying.

The cops said that the driver of the bus noticed something being thrown out of the window. As he confronted Altaf over it, the accused said that his alleged wife had vomited as she felt nauseous because of travelling in the bus.

The police said that an alert resident checked what was thrown out of the bus and was “shocked to find that it was a baby boy". He immediately informed the police about the development.

As the police were alerted, a local police patrol team chased the bus and held the couple.

The couple confessed to throwing the baby out of the bus and said that they did so as they were unable to raise the child.

The police said that the duo hailed from Parbhani and had been living in Pune for the past year and a half. The couple claimed that they were married, but failed to show any documents to back their claim.

“After taking them into custody, the police rushed the woman to a hospital for treatment," the police said.

The police have filed a case against the couple at the Pathri police station in Parbhani under Section 94 (3) and (5) of the new BNS law, which deals with hiding a birth by secretly getting rid of the baby’s body. The investigation into the matter is underway. The couple has been given a legal notice.
