Panic spread across Maharashtra's Badlapur town after the bodies of a woman and a cab driver were found inside a parked car in the Juveli area on Thursday afternoon. Police suspect that the woman was killed before the man sustained fatal injuries, but investigators are examining all possible angles to establish the exact sequence of events.
The woman's four-year-old son, who was present inside the vehicle during the incident, is believed to be a crucial witness.
The incident came to light when the child reportedly exited the vehicle and approached relatives living nearby. According to police, the boy informed them that his mother had died and led them to the car. Family members then discovered the bodies of the woman and a man inside the vehicle and alerted authorities.
Police teams from Badlapur East station rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. A forensic team was also called in to examine the crime scene and collect evidence. Preliminary findings revealed that both the deceased had suffered injuries caused by a sharp-edged weapon.
Investigators identified the man as Ganesh Shinde, a resident of Mumbai's Ghatkopar area who worked as a cab driver. The woman had reportedly been living in the Juveli locality for the past three months.
Authorities are now trying to determine the nature of the relationship between the two individuals and whether they knew each other prior to the incident.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Sachin Gore said initial information gathered from the child suggests that Shinde may have attacked the woman before inflicting injuries on himself.
However, police have not reached a final conclusion and are awaiting forensic and post-mortem reports before confirming the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
The woman's relatives have told investigators that they were unfamiliar with Shinde. Statements from both families are being recorded as part of the probe.
Police are also examining other evidence and possible motives that may have led to the incident.
Authorities have stressed that several aspects of the case remain unclear and that no theory has been ruled out.
Investigators believe the forensic findings and autopsy reports will play a key role in determining how the incident unfolded and whether any additional factors were involved. Further investigation is underway, they said.
