Maharashtra MLC Election Result 2026: The Maharashtra Legislative Council elections saw the ruling Mahayuti alliance of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party secure a near-clean sweep on Monday, winning 16 out of the 17 seats contested across local authorities’ constituencies. The only exception came in Nashik, where BJP rebel Gokul Gite defeated the alliance’s official candidate, Shiv Sena’s Narendra Darade.

The outcome once again highlighted the Mahayuti’s strong electoral hold in the state, with the alliance comfortably bagging nearly all seats in a contest where its numerical strength made it the frontrunner. The lone setback, however, emerged not from the opposition but from internal dissent.

Six candidates had already been declared elected unopposed, further strengthening the Mahayuti’s position even before counting began. In the remaining constituencies as well, the ruling alliance maintained its advantage.

BJP candidates registered wins in key seats such as Nagpur, Nanded and Sangli-Satara, while Mahayuti nominees also secured victories across other parts of the state.

The Nashik Upset

The Nashik seat drew the most attention during the MLC polls after BJP rebel Gokul Gite entered the fray as an Independent, refusing to withdraw in favour of the Mahayuti’s official nominee, Narendra Darade of the Shiv Sena. Despite efforts by senior leaders to persuade him to step aside, including intervention by ministers Girish Mahajan and Uday Samant, Gite remained in the contest.

He ultimately secured 357 votes, defeating Darade and delivering the alliance its only defeat in the election. The result was notable as the Nashik local authorities’ constituency had already witnessed intense political activity, with concerns over cross-voting and internal dissent.

High Turnout

The MLC polls recorded very high voter participation in several key constituencies. Nashik registered nearly 99.8% turnout, while Jalgaon recorded 97.8% voting. Since the electorate in local authorities’ constituencies comprises corporators, councillors and other elected representatives, such elections often reflect both organisational strength and local political equations.

Massive Win For Mahayuti

The 16-seat victory has been seen as a significant boost for the Mahayuti, reinforcing its dominance in local bodies and strengthening the perception of the BJP–Shiv Sena–NCP alliance as the primary force in Maharashtra politics. For the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, the results offered little relief, as it failed to make significant gains against the ruling coalition’s numerical superiority.
