An impostor was caught while appearing in the Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. Despite clearing three layers of security, he was finally exposed at the fourth level, when an iris scanner exposed his real identity.

The incident took place during the first shift of the exam at Evergreen Public School in Bhutahiyatand. Officials said the accused, identified as Sandeep Kumar, had entered the exam room number 4 at the centre posing as his younger brother.

According to police, Sandeep was writing the exam on behalf of his differently abled brother, Saurabh Pratap. He reportedly managed to slip past the initial three layers of security before entering the hall. However, the biometric verification through the iris scanner exposed the fraud.

Members of the Yogi Force deployed at the exam centre detained Sandeep immediately after the scanner raised an alert. He was handed over to the local police for further legal action.

Confirming the incident, senior police officer Shekhar Sengar said the matter came to light around 5:30 pm. “On the complaint of the exam centre superintendent at Evergreen Public School, a case has been registered. Legal proceedings are underway, and further investigation is being carried out,” he said.

The police are now probing how the accused managed to bypass the first three stages of security despite multiple checks. Authorities have also said that security protocols will be reviewed to prevent such incidents in the future.
