Man charged with raping school girl in Kishanganj

Patna: A 16-year-old schoolgirl was allegedly raped by a man, Mohd Mazhar (28), in Kishanganj district on Sunday. The incident occurred on Saturday morning while the girl was going to her school.According to the complaint filed by the girl at a police station on Sunday, Mazhar stopped her near a graveyard, dragged her to a nearby cornfield, and committed the crime. He threatened to ruin her and her family’s reputation if she revealed the incident to anyone. Raids are being carried out to nab the accused, police said.The girl alleged in her complaint that the accused lured her with the promise of marriage.After the incident, the girl returned to her home and revealed the crime to her family.

The family initially did not take any action out of fear of social stigma, but decided to take legal action after they started receiving repeated threats from the accused and his family members.The girl alleged in her complaint that the accused’s father, mother, sister, maternal uncle, and cousins were repeatedly coming to her house and threatening the family members to not lodge a complaint.Sunita Kumari, in charge of women’s police station, said: “An FIR was registered and a probe has begun into the incident. Raids are being carried out to nab the accused.”
