A woman was tied to a tree by a loan shark in Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor district.
A 25-year-old woman was tied to a tree, assaulted and verbally abused by a loan shark in Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district, after her husband failed to repay a loan.
The incident occurred around 1 pm on Monday, when the woman, Sirisha, who had briefly returned to the village to collect her child’s exam certificates, was spotted by a local moneylender, identified as Munikannappa.
Reportedly, Sirisha’s husband, Thimmarayappa, had borrowed Rs 80,000 from Munikannappa three years ago. Unable to repay, the couple had left the village, Narayanapuram in the Kuppam mandal, with their children.
Sirisha had since been working as a daily wage labourer to support her family and repay the debt.
Upon seeing her, Munikannappa reportedly hurled abuses, dragged her to a neem tree, tied her with ropes, and beat her. He also threatened to kill her if the loan remained unpaid. When onlookers tried to record the incident, he allegedly attacked them as well.
Locals informed the police, and Kuppam police arrested Munikannappa.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu ordered strict action in the assault case. The Chief Minister immediately spoke to the District Superintendent of Police, who informed him that the accused had already been arrested.
Naidu also directed the police to ensure such incidents do not recur. He advised district officials to stand by and provide all necessary support to the victim’s family.
