The Kerala High Court ordered three days’ simple imprisonment and ₹2,000 fine for an Ernakulam native for posting “contemptuous and intemperate” social media posts against High Court judges.
A Division Bench of Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan and Justice Jobin Sebastian passed the order against Alangad resident P.K. Suresh Kumar for posting the comments against the court’s Devaswom Bench. In a post, he alleged that the judges of the Bench were functioning under the influence of the Sangh Parivar and other external agencies.
Relying on the Facebook posts and witness statements, the court said that it was clear that Suresh Kumar committed criminal contempt of court. The court had earlier decided not to go ahead with contempt proceedings against him on similar charges after he tendered an apology.+
