Man gets life term for kidnap, rape of 11yo girl within 90 days

Agra: A special Pocso court in Firozabad sentenced a 35-year-old man to life imprisonment for kidnapping and raping an 11-year-old girl, concluding the trial within 90 days.On Friday, Judge Mumtaz Ali convicted the accused based on evidence, witness statements and the survivor’s testimony.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 55,000 on the convict, with an additional four months of imprisonment mandated in case of non-payment.Assistant district govt counsel Awadesh Bhardwaj said the crime occurred on March 10 when the survivor and two other girls went to a field near their village. The accused, a resident of the same village, lured the girl onto his motorcycle by offering her chocolates. He drove her to an isolated spot near a canal, where he assaulted her and subsequently attempted to kill her.

The girl’s screams alerted nearby villagers, who apprehended the man.Following the assault, the girl’s father lodged a police complaint, stating, “My daughter told me that the accused did wrong things to her...”Based on the complaint, police registered a case under BNS sections 137(2) for kidnapping, 109 for attempt to murder, and 65(2) for the rape of a girl under 12 years of age, along with the Pocso Act. A chargesheet was thereafter filed within days of sending the arrested man to jail.
