Man gets life term for throwing acid on his wife

Vadodara: A sessions court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for throwing acid on his wife in the city. Inayat Sheikh, a resident of Shiyapura, was held guilty of throwing acid on Kulsumbanu in a fit of rage at their house in Oct.

The court has also fined Shaikh Rs 1 lakh.The couple’s son had filed a complaint at Raopura police station alleging that Sheikh had been arguing with Kulsumbanu over various thing for several months. On the day of the attack, Sheikh had argued with her and then rushed to the bathroom to get the bottle of acid.He then walked to Kulsumbanu and threw the acid on her face. She suffered grievous burns on her face, hands and chest and was admitted to a private hospital. Raopura police registered a complaint against Sheikh for causing grievous hurt by using acid and arrested him.He was also accused of attacking his wife with a knife around 10 months before the acid attack. After considering all the evidence, the sessions court convicted Sheikh.
