Man held for hacking collector’s SSO ID to divert govt scheme funds

TNNJaisalmer: The district police have arrested a cyber fraud suspect from Jhalawar for allegedly conspiring to misappropriate money from govt schemes by tampering with the Single Sign-On (SSO) ID of the Jaisalmer district collector.The accused has been identified as Rahul Kumar Tanwar, 25, a resident of Khati Ka Pura Chhodaliya under Manohar Thana police station in Jhalawar. He was brought to Jaisalmer and produced before a court on Thursday, which sent him to police remand.Superintendent of police Abhishek Shivhare said the accused allegedly linked his own mobile number to the Jaisalmer collector’s SSO ID and uploaded forged documents after manipulating the account.

Police said the plan was to replace beneficiaries’ bank account details with accounts controlled by the accused, potentially affecting payouts meant for farmers and pensioners.According to the case registered at Cyber Police Station, Jaisalmer, an unidentified person allegedly logged in to the collector’s SSO ID and attempted to link a mobile number by emailing DOIT, Bikaner. Investigators said forged documents were then uploaded following the tampering.

Preliminary investigation suggests the accused targeted portals linked to schemes including PM Kisan Nidhi, Jan Aadhaar, Social Security Pension and Disaster Management. Based on technical evidence and cyber analysis, police identified and arrested Tanwar.During interrogation, police claimed the accused disclosed he previously accessed SSO IDs of tehsildars and patwaris to obtain beneficiary data and planned to redirect scheme assistance by changing bank account details.

Police also claimed he admitted preparing to carry out large-scale fraud by tampering with SSO IDs of many district collectors.Police said they are verifying which officials’ SSO IDs were compromised, how many portals were accessed and whether additional people were involved.
